Heng Leong Hang, a well-established Taiwanese retail brand founded in 1960, has opted to transition its IT infrastructure to the cloud to harness the power of data and gain valuable insights into customer preferences, facilitating more informed business decision-making. Originally a brand distributor, the company now proudly represents 25 renowned global brands.
In a strategic move initiated in 2020, Heng Leong Hang collaborated with Nutanix to modernize its data center, addressing challenges associated with its traditional three-tier architecture. These challenges encompassed network instability, scalability limitations, and labor-intensive processes. Timo Lu, the Head of Information Technology at Heng Leong Hang, shared with iTnews Asia that the company utilized the Nutanix Move tool to transfer applications and virtual machines (VMs) to the Nutanix Cloud Platform. This transition resulted in a notable achievement of 200,000 IOPS (input/output operations per second) during the initial phase.
The migration extended beyond VMs, including internal databases, IT systems, and critical applications such as Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and e-commerce operations. The goal was to enhance ERP system stability and address backup and scheduling challenges. Notably, daily alerts related to ERP applications saw a significant reduction of up to 98%, relieving the burden on IT personnel.
According to Lu, the previous challenge of identifying the root cause of IT issues has been overcome with the adoption of Nutanix Cloud Manager (NCM) Pro, an Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) solution. This tool provides real-time visibility into system performance and application/database statuses. The streamlined approach has significantly reduced the management workload, with only one or two team members needed to monitor the platform, allowing other IT resources to focus on more critical tasks.
