SIT Launches First-of-its-kind Centre for AI in Collaboration with NVIDIA.

The Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) has announced the establishment of its new Center for AI in collaboration with NVIDIA.

The Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) has announced the establishment of its new Center for AI in collaboration with NVIDIA. This initiative aims to enhance the adoption of AI across industries and cultivate a talent pipeline in alignment with Singapore’s goal of tripling its number of AI professionals within the next five years.

The SIT Center for AI has initiated research and development (R&D) projects to accelerate the adoption of AI by industry and government entities. It offers comprehensive support, including technological assistance, innovative solutions, and joint supervision by SIT and NVIDIA experts. The center is committed to aiding industries in customizing and refining AI models, as well as fostering the creation of advanced AI applications tailored to specific requirements.

Undergraduate and postgraduate students enrolled in Infocomm Technology (ICT) programs at SIT, including the Industrial Doctorate and Industrial Master (ID/IM) programs, are engaging in practical projects utilizing relevant NVIDIA AI technologies to enhance their skills.

Professor Susanna Leong, Vice President (Applied Research) at SIT, expressed anticipation for the center’s role in nurturing talent and advancing the AI industry. She emphasized the importance of building an ecosystem conducive to AI innovation and growth.

Dr. Ng Aik Beng, Senior Regional Manager of the NVIDIA AI Technology Center, highlighted the transformative potential of generative AI and emphasized NVIDIA’s commitment to supporting research and development initiatives in the region through collaboration with SIT.

The Center for AI, a collaborative effort between SIT and NVIDIA, represents a significant milestone in the region. It offers a wide range of AI solutions and supervises applied research projects to facilitate AI adoption among potential users. This initiative aims to equip corporations, including small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), with the necessary tools and support for successful integration of AI technologies.

The establishment of the center aligns with Singapore’s efforts to accelerate AI adoption, as stated by Mr. Chan Ih Ming, Executive Vice President of the Singapore Economic Development Board. He emphasized the government’s commitment to fostering an AI-driven economy and recognized the center’s role in bridging the gap between industry needs and capabilities.

Additionally, the center provides opportunities for SIT’s postgraduate students to engage in industry-level projects, with several students already involved in AI initiatives since the beginning of the year. Undergraduate students can also participate in AI-related projects through programs such as the Integrated Work Study Programme (IWSP) and the Integrative Team Project (ITP).

Led by AI experts from SIT and NVIDIA, the Center for AI has commenced operations at SIT@NYP Building and is undergoing construction at SIT’s upcoming Punggol Campus. The center will feature spaces for research and collaboration, powered by NVIDIA accelerated computing, to support industry partners in testing AI products and implementing AI solutions.

The center’s projects span various industries, including transportation, manufacturing, and healthcare, demonstrating the diverse applications of AI technologies. Industry partners such as SMRT Corporation and CTMetrix are collaborating with SIT to develop AI solutions tailored to their specific needs, ranging from safety enhancement in transportation to defect detection in manufacturing processes.

SIT recently hosted an Industry Day event in collaboration with industry partners, including SMRT Corporation and P&G, to discuss the translation of AI technology into practical applications. The event attracted over 150 attendees from the industry and featured panel discussions and demonstrations of AI projects developed by the center for real-world challenges.
