Oracle Corporation Japan unveiled its intention to invest more than $8 billion over the next decade to cater to the rising demand for cloud computing and AI infrastructure in Japan. This substantial investment aims to expand the footprint of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) throughout Japan. Additionally, in response to the digital sovereignty requirements prevalent in Japan, Oracle will significantly bolster its operations and support engineering teams with local personnel.
Toshimitsu Misawa, a member of the board, corporate executive officer, and president at Oracle Corporation Japan, emphasized the company’s commitment to meeting customers and partners at various stages of their cloud journey. Misawa highlighted the importance of expanding the cloud footprint and providing dedicated support to facilitate sovereign operations in Japan, thereby enabling customers and partners to leverage AI and other cloud services while adhering to regulatory and sovereignty standards.
To enhance local customer support, Oracle plans to augment its public cloud regions in Tokyo and Osaka and bolster its local operations teams for Oracle Alloy and OCI Dedicated Region. This initiative aims to empower governments and businesses across Japan to migrate their critical workloads to Oracle Cloud and embrace sovereign AI solutions. Oracle’s sovereign cloud and AI services are designed to be securely delivered within a country’s borders or an organization’s premises, offering a range of operational controls.
Oracle’s distributed cloud portfolio offers a variety of options:
- Dedicated cloud: OCI provides customers the flexibility to run all cloud services within their own data centers through OCI Dedicated Region, while partners can tailor OCI cloud services and resell them using Oracle Alloy. Moreover, Oracle operates separate clouds for government and isolated regions, catering to specific national security requirements.
- Hybrid cloud: OCI offers essential cloud services on-premises through Oracle Exadata Cloud@Customer and Compute Cloud@Customer, managing deployments across more than 60 countries.
- Public cloud: With forty-nine hyperscale public cloud regions worldwide, Oracle caters to organizations of all sizes, including those necessitating stringent EU sovereignty controls.
- Multicloud: Oracle provides options such as Oracle Database@Azure and MySQL HeatWave on AWS, enabling customers to combine capabilities from different cloud providers.
