NTT DATA, Schneider Electric team up for AI edge computing.

NTT DATA and Schneider Electric have joined forces to drive innovation in artificial intelligence (AI) at the edge of computing.

NTT DATA and Schneider Electric have joined forces to drive innovation in artificial intelligence (AI) at the edge of computing. This collaboration aims to leverage technologies such as Edge, Private 5G, IoT, and modular data centres to enhance energy efficiency and address compute-intensive tasks like machine vision and predictive maintenance. NTT DATA’s Edge as a Service, offering managed Edge to Cloud, Private 5G, and IoT capabilities, will be combined with Schneider Electric’s EcoStruxure, a modular data centre merging operational technology solutions with advanced IT technologies. The partnership is geared towards enabling operations in remote locations and delivering secure real-time data insights.

Shahid Ahmed, EVP of New Ventures and Innovation at NTT Ltd., expressed enthusiasm about the solution, emphasizing its potential to address challenges in processing vast amounts of data generated by edge devices for digital transformation. The collaboration is poised to cater to the growing demand from organizations accelerating edge adoption for automation and data-driven decision-making, as highlighted in NTT DATA’s Edge Advantage report.

The inaugural deployment of this collaboration will take place at the Marienpark Berlin, a historic industrial complex being transformed into an innovation park. Covering over 30 hectares, the Marienpark Berlin aims to provide enhanced connectivity and computing experiences, supporting innovation ecosystems. Guido Schütte, Managing Director of Marienpark Berlin, stressed the importance of advanced technological infrastructures for future user demands within their community.

The partnership initially tested Private 5G capabilities at Schneider Electric’s Lexington Smart Factory, and now it aims to expand its collaboration to bring a comprehensive solution to industrial customers. Rob McKernan, President, Cloud & Service Provider Segment at Schneider Electric, emphasized the broader agenda, stating that after leveraging NTT DATA’s expertise in Private 5G, they are now expanding the collaboration to offer a complete solution to industrial customers.

Addressing challenges posed by industry 4.0 applications, the collaboration seeks to ensure seamless integration and secure data insights through Edge data centres. NTT DATA and Schneider Electric will showcase their co-innovation partnership at the Mobile World Congress, demonstrating how edge and private 5G are transforming industries.
