Hyundai Heavy Industries (HD Hyundai) is teaming up with Google Cloud to expedite its digital transformation through the integration of generative AI technology. This collaboration extends across Hyundai’s key sectors, including its renowned shipbuilding and top-ranking construction machinery businesses in Korea. Google Cloud’s contribution will involve deploying its Vertex AI platform to create industry-specific AI applications.
Beginning in January 2024, HD Hyundai will concentrate on impactful initiatives, such as crafting AI solutions tailored to the unique requirements of each industry, developing AI-based platforms to enhance customer digital experiences, and providing training for AI experts. The company had already tested a Generative AI service for after-sales calls within its construction equipment division, marking the initiation of the partnership with Google Cloud in July 2023. The overarching goal is to establish a comprehensive AI roadmap to steer digital and business innovation in the long term.
HD Hyundai has proactively bolstered its in-house AI capabilities through strategic initiatives. This includes the establishment of an AI Center dedicated to crafting custom generative AI and partnerships with industry leaders like POSCO for smart unmanned technology and Siemens for AI applications in smart shipyards.
Emphasizing the potential impact of combining their extensive data with Google Cloud’s generative AI technology, HD Hyundai envisions substantial synergy. The company aims to leverage AI actively to enhance work efficiency and elevate customer satisfaction.
Highlighting the significance of this collaboration, Philip Moyer, Vice President of Global AI Business and Solutions at Google Cloud, is scheduled to address HD Hyundai’s CES 2024 keynote session.
