Basware, a Finnish fintech company, has announced the appointment of Barrett Schiwitz as its new Chief Information Officer (CIO) and Anssi Ruokonen as Director of AI Research and Enablement. Schiwitz, with over 30 years of experience, joins Basware from Snap One, where he served as Senior Vice President of Integration and Business Transformation. His role at Basware will involve overseeing the internal digital transformation projects, focusing on revamping systems and data across all functions, starting with customer-facing areas.
Anssi Ruokonen, previously Chief Product Officer at AI firm Fluentic, has been appointed to lead Basware’s AI strategy. The company aims to leverage AI technology to enhance existing offerings and develop new products and services, focusing on boosting business efficiency both internally and for its customers. Basware is particularly interested in exploring generative AI, which McKinsey estimates could generate over $4.4 trillion across all industries.
Founded in 1985, Basware specializes in providing an accounts payable (AP) automation and invoice processing platform designed to streamline labor-intensive invoice processes. With a global customer base, the company claims to process more than 220 million invoices annually. The strategic appointments are part of Basware’s broader initiative to navigate its internal digital transformation and advance its AI product and service strategy.
