OVHcloud Launches Second Data Centre in Singapore with Advanced Water Cooling Technology

OVHcloud, the European cloud leader, has unveiled its second data centre in Singapore, marking a significant milestone in its global strategic plan to establish 15 new sites by 2024.

OVHcloud, the European cloud leader, has unveiled its second data centre in Singapore, marking a significant milestone in its global strategic plan to establish 15 new sites by 2024. Simultaneously, the launch introduces the most sustainable data centre in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region, leveraging advanced water cooling technology.

The new data centre showcases OVHcloud’s commitment to environmental sustainability and sets a new standard for eco-friendly data centres in Singapore. It is in compliance with the country’s strict criteria for new data centres, emphasizing a Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of 1.3 or better to reduce carbon emissions.

OVHcloud’s water cooling technology, developed over two decades, is a key feature of the new data centre. The integrated water cooling system, built into vertical racks, eliminates the need for air conditioning in server rooms, resulting in cost savings and environmental benefits. The design ensures precise and efficient cooling, requiring significantly less water compared to traditional servers.

Michel Paulin, CEO of OVHcloud, emphasized Singapore’s importance as the Asia-Pacific’s digital capital and highlighted the need for sustainable data centres to support the region’s digital innovation. The company’s expertise in water cooling technology positions it to meet customers’ evolving needs for sustainable cloud solutions.

The new data centre boasts exceptional sustainability metrics, including a PUE as low as 1.29 and a Water Usage Effectiveness (WUE) of 0.30l/kWh—both significantly below industry averages. OVHcloud’s integrated industrial model, involving the manufacturing of racks and servers, contributes to a sustainable cloud design, with a Carbon Usage Effectiveness (CUE) of 0.18.

Terry Maiolo, Vice President and General Manager, APAC, OVHcloud, highlighted the significance of the data centre in providing high-performance, sustainable cloud solutions to support the digital ambitions of organizations in Singapore and the region. The new facility aligns with the evolving regulatory landscape in Asia, ensuring data security and compliance.
