Yondr Group, a major player in the hyperscale data center sector, has achieved a significant milestone by successfully powering up its inaugural campus in Malaysia. This achievement underscores a significant advancement in establishing the site’s power infrastructure. Established within just two years of Yondr’s entry into the Malaysian market, the site marks a crucial phase in the company’s expansion strategy across the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region.

Located within the Sedenak Tech Park in Johor, the energized data center campus is poised to deliver 300MW of critical IT capacity upon its completion. Future phases will focus on integrating dark fiber connectivity, along with scalable utilities and infrastructure. These developments highlight Yondr’s rapid and dependable capabilities in the development and delivery of hyperscale data centers. With Southeast Asia hosting numerous major data and cloud sector players, Yondr sees the region as a pivotal segment of its APAC expansion strategy.

The achievement of the energization milestone follows the securing of an Electricity Supply Agreement in August 2023 with Tenaga Nasional Berhad, a leading multinational electricity company based in Malaysia. This strategic partnership will provide the Johor campus with over 300MW of IT load through a 275kV high-voltage substation, establishing the site as the largest hyperscale data center campus in Southeast Asia.

Situated within the 700-acre Sedenak Tech Park, a part of the larger 7,290-acre Sedenak Technology Valley, Yondr’s development is surrounded by various tech-focused sectors. These include advanced electronics and medical device manufacturing, renewable energy, biotech, and food tech industries, as well as additional research and development facilities. Proximity to key data center metros offers valuable connectivity routes, ensuring long-term scalability potential for Yondr’s customers in Malaysia.

Paul Dillon, Chief Development Officer at Yondr Group, emphasized the significance of Malaysia as a strategic data center hub for the company’s APAC growth plans. He highlighted the Johor development as integral to their global scaling strategy, focusing on delivering cost-efficient, secure, and scalable data centers with sustainability as a core principle.

Yondr’s progress in the APAC region underscores its success in establishing a presence in major global data center hubs. Ongoing projects include developments in Northern Virginia (USA), various European locations, and Japan through a partnership with conglomerate Marubeni.

Eanna Murphy, Chief Operations Officer of Design & Construction, expressed his satisfaction with the recent progress, emphasizing the importance of timely completion of the Johor project’s substation as a significant step towards operationalizing a fully functional hyperscale asset in this strategically significant location.
