In a brief chat with CXO TV, Dr Chandran R, CIO, Bahwan Cybertek, highlights five basic tenets to drive the digital transformation strategy in an organization.
What are the scenarios that are likely to impact your industry in 2021?
We have seen signs of businesses opening up after the Covid-19 pandemic during the last quarter of 2020 but still the uncertainty remains. Some businesses had to shut shop and many are still partially operational. The business owners are now looking at re-strategizing the whole business. In addition, they are forced to research into new markets and diversify their offerings. Many of them are looking at how to engage with existing customers to deepen the relationship so that they can get more orders. You need a strategic direction to provide purpose for your business and help you set realistic goals for the upcoming year.
How has the year 2020 increased focus on technology across your industry?
Enterprises have been experimenting with the emerging technologies for both customer and enterprise use. The focus is on data-driven dynamics for digital transformation, security engine and so on. There have been five trends in all of this:
- Breakout moment for AI in manufacturing
- Practical deployment of IoT
- Increased demand for edge computing processing power
- Commercialization of quantum computing
- New era of Internet deploying 5G and star link in Internet technology.
What are your technology priorities for 2021?
Technology and digital transformation strategy is the priority for 2021 and it is based on data processes and organizational changes. Our focus will be on implementing digital transformation through five basic things:
We have to look at the organizational vision. We have to understand the customer better. Technology approach for digital transformation must be aligned with customer expectations. Matrix and measurements are essential as now people are looking at how they can maximise their returns. Finally, governance has to be excellent.
