HCLTech has announced the acquisition of a contract from Victoria’s Department of Transport and Planning, aimed at automating the concession entitlement process for public transportation passengers. The financial details of the agreement have not been disclosed.
With over 605 million annual trips on Victoria’s public transport network, where 35% are made by concession card holders, including students, retirees, veterans, and individuals with disabilities, HCLTech will develop and support a Concessions Entitlement Validation Platform (CEVP) for the department. The platform will offer instant verification of concession entitlement and a user-friendly interface for passengers to apply for and manage concession entitlement, enhancing the overall experience for both passengers and department staff.
A notable feature of the CEVP is its ability to link credit cards with concession cards, a pioneering initiative in the country. This functionality will provide concession card holders with flexible payment options.
HCLTech plans to implement the CEVP across Victoria using digital workflow orchestration solutions and agile development methodologies. The company will also provide ongoing maintenance, customer service support, and training for the Department of Transport and Planning staff.
Michael Horton, Executive Vice President and Country Manager for Australia and New Zealand at HCLTech, emphasized the significance of leveraging technology to support the vulnerable population among concession cardholders while unlocking business value.
