ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT GDC), a leading global data center provider, and Basis Bay, a renowned specialist in sustainable cloud and green data centers, have come together in a strategic partnership to initiate and operate data center projects in Kuala Lumpur and Cyberjaya, Malaysia.

The cornerstone of this joint venture is an innovative state-of-the-art data center campus located in Cyberjaya, situated just 30 kilometers from Malaysia’s capital city. This sprawling campus, spanning over three acres, will encompass two buildings. The ‘Cyberjaya DC.2’ is envisioned as an ultra-secure, eco-friendly premium data center, meticulously designed to meet the highest global standards in terms of security and sustainability. Targeting a diverse clientele that includes local and international banks, financial institutions, and government agencies, this cutting-edge facility is poised to commence operations in 2024.

Additionally, the collaborative effort will introduce ‘STT Kuala Lumpur 1,’ a data center specially tailored to cater to the hyperscale segment. The construction of the first phase of this ambitious project is scheduled to commence shortly, with an anticipated completion date of 2025. This partnership between STT GDC and Basis Bay brings together the latter’s local expertise and extensive network with the global footprint of STT GDC, which encompasses an impressive portfolio of 85 data centers across 10 countries. By injecting foreign direct investment into the Malaysian data center landscape, this collaboration introduces advanced technology, international best practices, and access to a broader market, including hyperscale customers.

This strategic union is strategically poised to tap into Malaysia’s burgeoning demand for digital infrastructure. Propelled by the country’s robust internet penetration rate of 96.8%, encompassing approximately 33 million individuals, Malaysia is at the forefront of digital adoption. Notably, over 67% of all internet users in Malaysia fall within the under-35 demographic. This favorable landscape sets the stage for significant growth in the digital economy. Consequently, Malaysia is bracing for investments amounting to US$2.25 billion in local data centers by 2028, propelled by the visionary policies and initiatives of the government.

The collaboration between STT GDC and Basis Bay represents a significant stride towards the development of sustainable and advanced data centers, catering to the evolving needs of Malaysia’s rapidly expanding digital ecosystem.
