Mount Alvernia Hospital has entered into a partnership with OutSystems, a leading low-code application development solutions provider, to drive its digitalization initiatives in response to pandemic challenges. The collaboration has resulted in the successful development of 12 applications by Mount Alvernia Hospital, focusing on improving user experiences for internal staff and visitors. Leveraging OutSystems’ capabilities, the hospital aims to streamline its traditional code development process, facilitating the accelerated delivery of innovative solutions to support its commitment to providing holistic healthcare.

Key applications developed by Mount Alvernia’s in-house team of 13 developers include the Staff Health System, initially designed for COVID-19 contact tracing and later expanded to encompass features such as staff vaccination tracking and appointment scheduling. Another application is the Doctors Directory, enabling visitors to easily locate doctors’ clinic locations. The Medical Records Tracking application efficiently manages paper-based medical records in departments, monitoring their circulation and return. The Electronic Meal Ordering system allows patients and their families to conveniently place orders for in-patient meals, including dietary restrictions, streamlining kitchen operations.

Mount Alvernia Hospital’s integration of technology aligns with its commitment to compassionate and holistic healthcare, enhancing internal workflows and overall patient and visitor experiences. The use of low-code development has not only optimized processes but has also significantly reduced the time required for creating new applications, boosting developer morale.

Looking ahead, Mount Alvernia Hospital is actively developing the Alvernia Connect Application to automate manual processes and enhance patient engagement. This application will enable patients to complete paperwork digitally, check insurance claims, and access services via their mobile devices. The first module is anticipated to be released in Q1 of 2024, reflecting the hospital’s ongoing dedication to innovation and excellence in healthcare delivery.
