Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison (Indosat or IOH) is taking a significant step in Indonesia’s digital advancement by partnering with BDx Indonesia, a joint venture of Indosat, BDx Data Centers (BDx), and Lintasarta, to acquire a range of carrier-neutral colocation and edge sites. These sites, located in cities such as Jakarta, Surabaya, Batam, Medan, Makassar, Bandung, and Semarang, include ten strategic locations connected to domestic and international subsea cables.
To strengthen its capital structure and facilitate rapid growth, BDx Indonesia is securing debt from three major Indonesian banks: BCA, Bank Permata, and Bank Bukopin. This IDR 2,625 billion engagement builds upon the partnership established between Indosat and BDx in 2022, with the shared goal of creating Indonesia’s premier data center operation in support of the government’s Digital Roadmap and digital infrastructure objectives.
The acquisition will significantly enhance the interconnected ecosystem being developed by BDx Indonesia. The extensive network across BDx Indonesia’s data centers will facilitate interconnection between businesses and multiple cloud providers, promoting widespread digital enablement across Indonesia.
This strategic move is expected to accelerate hybrid digital transformations and greatly enhance the digital experience for enterprises, technology firms, and internet users. BDx Indonesia has already expanded and upgraded four data centers in Jakarta and West Java since their transfer in 2022. One of these sites is equipped for high-density artificial intelligence workloads powered by green hydropower and features sustainable liquid cooling technology.
Following the acquisition, BDx Indonesia will possess an IT capacity of over 150MW in Indonesia, spanning ten operating carrier-neutral colocation facilities in major cities, a new 15MW facility near Jakarta, and carrier-neutral edge sites across primary Indonesian islands.
Expressing deeper involvement in Indonesia’s digital infrastructure, BDx Indonesia aims to generate employment opportunities, provide education initiatives to local communities, and drive the digital economy, especially in remote areas, to meet customer needs.
Vikram Sinha, President Director and CEO of Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison, emphasized their commitment to shaping Indonesia’s digital future and evolving from a Telco to a TechCo through this collaboration. Mayank Srivastava, CEO of BDx, sees the acquisition as a testament to BDx Indonesia’s dedication to the country’s digital future, positioning them as the preferred partner for digitalization in Indonesia. The collaboration aims to bring together the strengths of Indosat and BDx Indonesia to achieve sustainable and innovative solutions beyond traditional telecom services, setting new industry benchmarks in Indonesia’s digital transformation.
