DE-CIX Malaysia and Digital Penang have collaborated to unveil the Penang Internet Exchange, known as Penang IX or PIX, with the official inauguration led by the Minister of Digital, YB Gobind Singh Deo, and the Chief Minister of Penang, YAB Chow Kon Yeow. This groundbreaking initiative aims to transform the digital landscape of Penang and beyond, positioning PIX as a core hub for data transactions and playing a crucial role in advancing the digital transformation goals of the Penang state government.
YB Gobind Singh Deo highlighted PIX’s role as a catalyst for economic growth, emphasizing its potential to attract investments, foster technology growth, and position Penang as a key player in the regional digital scene. The strategic localization of Internet traffic aligns with national efforts to deepen digital connections and establish leadership in the digital revolution.
YAB Chow Kon Yeow praised Penang IX as a testament to the state government’s commitment to technological advancement, constructing a digital framework that aligns with the Penang2030 vision. This commitment is expected to open gateways to economic opportunities, positioning Penang as a leader in the regional digital evolution.
Wong Weng Yew, a Board Member of DE-CIX Malaysia, outlined PIX’s ambitions, focusing on its objective to stimulate content localization and drive the adoption of the next phase of digital applications, including IoT, VR, and IR4.0.
