OVHcloud Expands Its Presence with New Data Centre in Singapore

European cloud services provider OVHcloud is set to strengthen its presence in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region by launching a new data centre facility in Singapore.

European cloud services provider OVHcloud is set to strengthen its presence in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region by launching a new data centre facility in Singapore. This marks the company’s second data centre in the APAC region, following the opening of its first centre in Mumbai, India.

While OVHcloud announced its expansion into Singapore, it has yet to disclose the exact location of the facility or its size. It remains uncertain whether the company plans to construct a greenfield data centre or lease space within an existing facility. Singapore imposes strict criteria for new data centres, including a requirement to achieve a Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) rating of 1.3 or better to reduce carbon emissions.

OVHcloud’s expansion strategy in the APAC region aims to create a network of data centres that can provide reliable and secure cloud solutions tailored to meet the digital needs of its customers. The company’s CEO, Michel Paulin, highlighted the importance of sustainable data centres in reducing the carbon footprint of digitalization and supporting emerging technologies like Generative AI in Singapore.

Leveraging over 20 years of experience in water cooling technology, OVHcloud will address customers’ sustainability requirements as their digital needs evolve. The Singapore data centre will incorporate an integrated water-cooling system designed within a vertical rack, eliminating the need for traditional air conditioning in server rooms. This approach offers cost-saving benefits and reduces the environmental impact. The precise and efficient cooling system requires only one glass of water to cool an OVHcloud server for over 10 hours, in contrast to other servers that consume seven times more water.

OVHcloud has ambitious expansion plans in the APAC region, with aims to establish a total of 15 new data centre sites by 2024. In addition to the Mumbai facility and the newly announced Singapore data centre, the company has confirmed plans to launch an additional site in Sydney next year. This expansion will enhance access to secure cloud solutions for customers in the region.
