CelcomDigi is gearing up to spearhead initiatives aimed at encouraging local businesses to embrace the benefits of 5G technology

CelcomDigi is gearing up to spearhead initiatives aimed at encouraging local businesses to embrace the benefits of 5G technology as Malaysia targets achieving 80% 5G network coverage in populated areas by the end of the year.

During the company’s inaugural MY5G Conference and Showcase held in Kuala Lumpur, Datuk Idham Nawawi, CEO of CelcomDigi, emphasized the need for a robust ecosystem to drive 5G adoption in the country. The conference drew more than 400 leaders and decision-makers representing 220 companies across 30 different industries.

Idham Nawawi stated that Malaysia has a digital aspiration for a digital economy, focusing on industrializing 5G, IoT (Internet of Things), artificial intelligence (AI), and machine learning to enhance global competitiveness.

CelcomDigi showcased its collaboration with DHL Supply Chain to introduce Malaysia’s first 5G-powered autonomous AI warehouse. DHL’s logistics center in Shah Alam, covering one million square feet, now features AI and robotics solutions for optimized and efficient inventory management, demonstrating the company’s commitment to accelerate 5G adoption among businesses.

Local firm XR Associates (XRA) is harnessing 5G’s low latency to power its augmented reality (AR) and extended reality (XR) software, creating virtual replicas of industrial facilities. Sole Vision Technologies, a video surveillance analytics provider, leveraged 5G to enhance AI integration within its services, offering real-time license plate and vehicle identification, as well as facial recognition.

Meanwhile, healthcare claims management solution company Medilink-Global is exploring telehealth services that allow remote listening to a patient’s heartbeat, providing medical attention in remote areas where immediate care might not be accessible.

CelcomDigi’s initiatives align with the government’s efforts to fund digitalization, particularly benefiting SMEs (small and midsize enterprises) to bolster the Malaysian economy. Budget 2024 includes various initiatives, such as RM100 million digitalization grants, aimed at supporting over 20,000 SMEs and micro-entrepreneurs in their digital transformation journey.

These endeavors present an opportunity for businesses to grow, develop, and succeed, contributing to the country’s digital aspirations, according to CelcomDigi’s CEO, Idham Nawawi.
