Veeam Software has recently unveiled its latest release, the Veeam Data Cloud – a novel Backup-as-a-Service (BaaS) platform tailored for Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Azure. Operating on the reliable Microsoft Azure infrastructure, this platform aims to amalgamate storage, cloud backup, and ransomware recovery into a cohesive and user-friendly package. Catering to the 18 million users currently on Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365, Veeam Data Cloud is designed to streamline backup operations with simplified management and administration while upholding the cyber resiliency and reliability associated with Veeam technology.
According to Anand Eswaran, CEO at Veeam, the rise in BaaS usage is anticipated, with 88% of enterprises showing a strong inclination towards using BaaS or Disaster Recovery as-a-Service (DRaaS) for their production servers, as per the Veeam Data Protection Trends Report 2024. Eswaran emphasized that the company has seamlessly transferred its trusted capabilities from existing data protection and ransomware recovery services onto an as-a-service platform, resulting in a user-friendly and reliable solution.
The integration of Veeam Data Cloud’s cloud-native design with Microsoft Azure’s data platform ensures optimal protection for Microsoft 365 and Azure data. The platform offers policy-driven simplicity, adhering to Zero Trust principles and utilizing Azure Blob Storage for secure backups. The service provides an out-of-the-box experience, ready for swift recovery, and is praised for its ease of configuration by IT professionals, as noted by John Annand, Principal Research Director at Info-Tech Research Group.
Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 is introduced as a brand-new service, building upon the established reliability of Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365. It ensures comprehensive data protection and recovery for Microsoft Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive for Business, and Teams. The package includes a modern web UI and covers software, backup infrastructure, and unlimited storage. Stuart Hudson from Sun Chemical emphasized the secure nature of the service, providing an extra layer of cyber resilience and significant cost savings by eliminating the need for in-house infrastructure management.
For Microsoft Azure, Veeam Data Cloud represents the first Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) offering for Azure backup. It is a pre-configured backup service that promises optimized cloud costs and business continuity. The platform claims to provide the most customizable Recovery Point Objectives (RPOs) and Recovery Time Objectives (RTOs) while eliminating obstacles such as implementation, patching, and misconfiguration remediation. The new Veeam Data Cloud is now available for users, offering a quick return on investment.
