A recent report from Opensignal, titled “5G Global Mobile Network Experience Awards 2023,” has recognized Singapore’s leading telecommunications companies for their exceptional performance across multiple categories in the global 5G network experience.
Singapore’s top three telecom giants, Singtel, StarHub, and M1, have taken center stage in the categories of Gaming, Download Speeds, and Video. All three operators from Singapore fall under Group II, designated for markets with a land area of less than 200,000 square kilometers.
In Opensignal’s assessment of the 5G Games Experience, measuring real-time multiplayer mobile gaming, Singtel emerged as the Global Winner, closely followed by StarHub in the second position, while M1 secured the fourth spot. These rankings signify that the vast majority of users consider the 5G gaming experience offered by Singaporean telcos as not just acceptable but of high quality. It reflects a gaming experience where users maintain control, receive immediate feedback on their actions with minimal delays, and enjoy seamless interactions.
When it comes to 5G Download Speeds, M1 claimed the title of Global Leader, securing fourth place overall with an impressive speed of 402.8Mbps. StarHub and Singtel were among the top 10 operators, recording download speeds of 386.4Mbps and 359.7Mbps, respectively.
Significantly, StarHub demonstrated remarkable growth in this category, marking a remarkable 114% improvement, positioning them at the top of the table in Group II with the most substantial year-on-year percentage increase in 5G Download Speed. M1 was the immediate follower with an impressive 103.8% growth, while Singtel secured the title of 5G Global Rising Star with a respectable 24.2% growth.
In Opensignal’s evaluation of 5G Video Experience, the score assessed the quality of video streaming to mobile devices over a 5G network. StarHub shared the top spot globally, tied for first place, with Singtel securing the fifth position. M1 performed commendably, ranking 13th. StarHub and Singtel both received excellent ratings, indicating that users can stream videos at 1080p or higher with swift loading times and minimal buffering when connected to 5G. Meanwhile, M1 achieved a Very Good rating, signifying a satisfying video streaming experience with good loading times and minimal buffering at 1080p or higher quality.
The findings of the Opensignal report underscore a significant victory for Singapore’s 5G subscribers who can expect an enhanced 5G experience across the offerings of all three leading telcos. This recognition highlights the commitment of local telcos to delivering top-tier 5G services to their users, positioning Singapore as a key player in the global 5G landscape.
