SAP is undergoing a reorganization of its AI initiatives, appointing Philipp Herzig as the Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer (CAIO) to lead a newly established “end-to-end growth area” focused on AI. Previously heading cross-product engineering and experience, Herzig will now report directly to CEO Christian Klein, overseeing the complete value chain of SAP’s business AI, from research and product development to customer implementation.

The restructuring aims to expedite SAP’s AI development, emphasizing the strategic importance of business AI for the company’s future growth. The goal is to integrate AI into every facet of the SAP portfolio, enabling customers to consistently utilize SAP business AI across their entire SAP experience.

In this new role, Herzig’s team will collaborate closely with other innovators within SAP, working towards a seamless integration of artificial intelligence throughout the company’s offerings. The objective is to usher in a new era of enterprise innovation, with a commitment to delivering relevant, reliable, and responsible business AI that transforms the way businesses operate.

Walter Sun, who joined SAP from Microsoft in September 2023, will play a key role as the Global Head of AI, coordinating the development of SAP’s next generation of enterprise software on a global scale. Additionally, Sun will serve as the lead AI product developer in Herzig’s team, further solidifying their collaborative efforts. Herzig was previously Sun’s superior before his recent appointment.
