Microsoft is on the verge of securing a significant agreement with Amazon.com, as reported by Insider. The deal, valued at over $1 billion, will see Amazon become a customer for Microsoft’s 365 cloud productivity tools. This development is supported by an internal document and a source familiar with the matter.
In this multi-year commitment, Amazon is poised to acquire over one million Microsoft 365 licenses for a period exceeding five years. While Microsoft’s shares saw a nearly 1% increase in after-hours trading following this news, both companies have remained tight-lipped on the matter, with Microsoft declining to provide an official statement and Amazon not responding to Reuters’ request for comment.
The implementation of these new systems by Amazon is expected to commence in early November. Currently, the e-commerce giant employs a local, on-premises version of Microsoft’s Office products.
