Intel has launched its latest line of desktop processors, the 14th Generation Core-series CPUs based on the advanced Raptor Lake architecture. The flagship model, the Core i9-14900K, takes center stage with a remarkable Thermal Velocity Boost speed of 6GHz, marking the first time such a high frequency is available in a mainstream, widely available chip.
This 14th Generation lineup also includes the Core i7-14700K/KF and the Core i5-14600K/KF, each pushing the boundaries of performance. The Core i7-14700K/KF boasts 20 cores and 28 threads, while the Core i5-14600K/KF offers 14 cores and 20 threads. These processors are essentially overclocked versions of their previous-generation counterparts, with some new connectivity enhancements. The Core i7, however, stands out by introducing more E-cores, higher clock speeds, and a larger cache.
These CPUs are compatible with Intel 600- and 700-series motherboards, using the familiar LGA 1700 socket. Owners of Intel 12th Gen and 13th Gen motherboards can seamlessly transition to the new 14th Gen chips.
In terms of connectivity, these processors support Wi-Fi 6/6E, Bluetooth 5.3, as well as the new Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 technologies. They also offer robust wired connectivity options with Thunderbolt 4 and Thunderbolt 5, providing up to 80Gbps of bi-directional bandwidth. Furthermore, these chips support DDR5 5600 and DDR4 3200 memory speeds.
For users seeking integrated graphics, the 14th Gen chips come equipped with UHD Graphics 770, maintaining consistency with previous generation models.
Pricing for the flagship Core i9-14900K is set at $589, making it a powerful choice for gamers and enthusiasts. The Core i7-14700K and the Core i5-14600K are priced at $409 and $319, respectively. These CPUs are now available for purchase at retail outlets and through OEM partner systems as of October 17th.
