This strategic move reflects Google Cloud’s commitment to supporting public sector entities in modernizing operations, utilizing Cloud and AI capabilities to provide citizen-focused digital services and enhance cybersecurity measures on a large scale. Based in Singapore, Sharma will report directly to Karan Bajwa, Vice President of Google Cloud for the Asia Pacific region.

Bajwa expressed confidence in Sharma’s leadership, anticipating increased collaboration with regional governments to advance their digital agendas.

Bringing nearly three decades of experience to his new role, Rahul Sharma has held regional leadership positions at Amazon Web Services (AWS) Public Sector business for Asia Pacific, AWS India, and IBM. Sharma’s background includes advocating for technology-driven positive change, notably through involvement in industry organizations like NASSCOM, where he played a crucial role in developing the National COVID response platform and enhancing the skill set of the Indian IT workforce. He also served as Chair of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) IT & ITES Council from 2022 to 2023.
