Dr Pallavi Darade, an Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer of the 1997 batch has taken over as the new Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Commissioner recently.
Dr Darade was earlier serving as additional municipal commissioner in BMC and was appointed on the post by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Earlier too, she was on deputation with the state government and posted as the additional tribal development commissioner. Prior to her brief stint with the state government, she was an additional commissioner of Income Tax.
She is the wife of senior bureaucrat Praveen Darade, former secretary to the CM Devendra Fadnavis.
Her predecessor former FDA Commissioner Dr Harshadeep Kamble had spearheaded a massive crackdown against hospitals for overcharging cardiac stents much before it was brought under price control by the government.
He played a major role in detecting and taking strict action on internet pharmacy rackets since he joined in January 2015 and also head of the committee on online pharmacy which was formed to frame regulations on online pharmacy.
