Databricks Inc. has recently completed its third acquisition in seven months, demonstrating a strong commitment to enhancing its generative AI capabilities. The latest acquisition involves Einblick Analytics Inc., a startup renowned for its natural language processing (NLP) capabilities, allowing users with varying skill levels to effectively work with data. While the financial details of the transaction remain undisclosed, this move follows Databricks’ previous acquisitions of MosaicML for $1.3 billion in June 2023 and Arcion for $100 million in October 2023.
The MosaicML acquisition bolstered Databricks’ portfolio with a platform enabling users to train and secure generative AI models using proprietary data, distinguishing them from models trained solely on public data. Subsequently, the Arcion acquisition provided additional tools for data ingestion and replication, facilitating the development of pipelines crucial for feeding and training generative AI models and applications.
Building on these acquisitions, Databricks introduced the Data Intelligence Platform, marking the evolution of its Data Lakehouse Platform, currently in preview. This rebranding signifies the company’s strategic emphasis on positioning generative AI as a cornerstone of its portfolio, alongside its established data management capabilities. The Data Intelligence Platform, once completed, aims to seamlessly integrate data lakehouses with analytics and data science, reflecting Databricks’ holistic approach to data platforms.
In alignment with this strategic focus on generative AI, the recent addition of Einblick’s NLP capabilities underscores Databricks’ commitment to providing comprehensive and user-friendly solutions for data manipulation and analysis.
