Commvault, a prominent provider of hybrid cloud data protection and cyber resilience solutions, has announced its acquisition of Appranix, a company specializing in cloud cyber resilience. This strategic move by Commvault aims to enable enterprises to swiftly recover and resume operations following outages or cyberattacks.
According to data from Statista, the average downtime resulting from a ransomware attack amounts to 24 days. Commvault addresses this challenge by facilitating rapid data recovery through automation and advanced cleanroom offerings. However, efficient data recovery is only one aspect of the equation.
Rebuilding critical cloud applications, along with the associated data and infrastructure dependencies, is essential. These dependencies encompass networking, DNS configuration, application load balancing, security group access, and more. Appranix’s automation capabilities streamline these processes, potentially reducing the time required for recovery from days or weeks to mere hours or minutes.
Sanjay Mirchandani, President & CEO of Commvault, emphasized the company’s commitment to elevating resilience by combining its extensive risk assessment, readiness, and recovery capabilities with Appranix’s advanced cloud-native rebuild functionalities. Mirchandani expressed excitement about welcoming Appranix to the Commvault family.
Govind Rangasamy, Founder and CEO of Appranix, echoed this sentiment, describing the union with Commvault as a natural progression for their shared vision of transcending conventional backup and disaster recovery solutions. Rangasamy anticipates that their combined technologies will offer unparalleled resilience capabilities to businesses worldwide.
Archana Venkatraman, Research Director at IDC specializing in Cloud Operations and Cloud Data Management, noted that achieving comprehensive cyber resilience is a significant goal for most enterprise customers. This acquisition, Venkatraman believes, transforms cyber resilience into a tangible reality by extending automated rebuild capabilities to dynamic and distributed cloud applications.
The Appranix team will swiftly integrate into Commvault, with the integration of Appranix’s technology into Commvault’s product portfolio expected to be completed by summer. Meanwhile, customers can leverage Appranix’s offerings for cloud application discovery and rebuild requirements through AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure marketplaces.
