FPT Corporation, a leading Vietnamese technology company, has taken a significant step toward fostering its semiconductor industry by collaborating with the National Innovation Center (NIC) and TreSemi, an American technology organization with a network of semiconductor experts. Together, they have established the Vietnam Semiconductor Training Center (VSHE), which stands for Vietnam Semiconductor Hub for Education. This milestone was achieved during the Inauguration Ceremony of the NIC Hoa Lac campus, coinciding with the Vietnam International Innovation Exhibition 2023 (VIIE 2023), and was witnessed by Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung, among other distinguished delegates.
Vietnam has been making remarkable progress in positioning itself within the global semiconductor supply chain. Many of the world’s largest chip manufacturers have established a presence in this Southeast Asian nation. In light of these developments, preparations, especially in the training of human resources, are needed for Vietnam to seize the growing opportunities in the semiconductor industry.
As the semiconductor value chain gradually shifts to Southeast Asia, the establishment of the VSHE holds great promise for Vietnam’s semiconductor sector. The center’s primary objectives include enhancing the training of local semiconductor talent, supporting semiconductor projects, and facilitating the transformation of integrated circuits (IC) design concepts into real-world applications.
As part of this collaboration, the partners are collectively committed to the ambitious goal of nurturing a skilled workforce of 50,000 semiconductor engineers by 2030, with a vision extending to 2045. Moreover, the partnership has pledged to provide 300 scholarships to outstanding students in the semiconductor field at 20 top Vietnamese universities.
In 2022, FPT Software marked a significant milestone by launching a new subsidiary, FPT Semiconductor. By the end of 2023, FPT Semiconductor plans to supply 25 million chips globally in seven different types, catering to a diverse range of industries, including telecommunications, IoT, automotive technology, energy, and electronics.
This strategic partnership underscores Vietnam’s dedication to playing an increasingly significant role in the global semiconductor landscape, not only by attracting chip manufacturers but also by investing in the education and development of local talent, ultimately fostering innovation and technological advancements in the nation.
