Australians Lost 3x More to Scammers via Bank Transactions than Bitcoin Payments in 2020
According to data compiled by cryptocurrency trading simulator Crypto Parrot, Australians lost an equivalent of AUD 26.65 million in scams where Bitcoin was the payment method in 2020. Despite Bitcoin being a new payment method, the fraud linked to the cryptocurrency ranked second behind banks.
Bitcoin remains the most popular cryptocurrency playing a role as an investment vehicle and also a payment medium. However, scammers are exploring the payment aspect to defraud victims resulting in losses of millions of dollars.
Scams involving bank transactions amounted to AUD 97.65 million, which is at least 3.7 times more than the amount lost in bitcoin payments scams. Other unspecified payment methods ranked third at AUD 24.17 million while cash ranked fourth at AUD 8.57 million. Credit cards emerged fifth at AUD 8.1 million.
Robotics Firm Createc to Provide Custom Sensor Integrations for Boston Dynamics’ Spot
Createc, a UK-based robotics and computer vision company, will serve as a technical integrator and commercial reseller of Massachusetts-based Boston Dynamics, a world leader in mobile robots.
Createc has been working with Boston Dynamics’ Spot – a four-legged agile robot with advanced mobility and perception to navigate stairs, gravel, and rough terrain while collecting 2D and 3D information with on board sensors, automating some common data collection and inspection tasks. The company has been using Spot primarily in nuclear decommissioning applications so far but expects to expand to other industrial uses in the future.
Createc, formed more than ten years ago, has a track record of commercialization of its innovative technology, including its N-Visage technology which was used in the clean-up following the Fukushima Daiichi accident in Japan.
The company sees the relationship with Boston Dynamics as providing Createc with a highly mobile solution through its Spot robot, and anticipates Createc can help Boston Dynamics build new application capabilities and commercial opportunities.
NTT to Create World’s Largest Connected Stadium, Generating a ‘Digital Twin’ of Tour de France
NTT has announced that it will create the world’s largest connected stadium, a concept unique to the Tour de France, generating a ‘digital twin’ of the event.
As the official technology partner to Amaury Sport Organisation (ASO), NTT informed that millions of data points will be collected and brought to life through insightful visualizations and digital experiences for fans, as well as new services to support the event operations for this three-week long race that takes place from 26 June – 18 July 2021.
Due to ongoing travel restrictions and Covid-19 safety measures, NTT, together with ASO, will deliver a host of digital experiences to engage fans around the world.
